Petals of Calendula is a natural ingredient manufactured from dried flowers of Calendula, a genus of about 15–20 species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants in the daisy family Asteraceae. Popular herbal and cosmetic products named 'calendula' invariably derive from Calendula Officinalis.
The flowers of Calendula officinalis contain flavonol glycosides, triterpene oligoglycosides, oleanane-type triterpene glycosides, saponins, and a sesquiterpene glucoside.
Calendula, with bright orange flower heads, is better commonly known as pot marigold. Native to Europe, this plant grows and is easily cultivated in the Mediterranean areas.
Already known and used since ancient times for its medicinal properties, calendula’s use has grown in cosmetics thanks to its soothing and healing virtues.
